A ticker is a starting point. A useful research process begins with understanding what the company does, how it earns revenue, and the questions you want its filings to answer.
Start with a question
Write down what you want to understand about the business. Where does its revenue come from? What resources does it need to operate? What has management said about its priorities?
Follow the source
Keep the underlying filing close to your notes. Record the reporting period, definitions, and any qualifications alongside the figures you use. This makes it easier to revisit an interpretation later.
Add perspective
